Protection from water directly determines how long a building lasts. Poorly installed waterproofing leads to mould, spalling concrete, rebar corrosion and costly repairs. It is worth choosing proven materials that withstand both water pressure and structural movement. One of them is PLASTIVO 180.
What is PLASTIVO 180?
It is a two-component, polymer-modified cementitious waterproofing coating. After curing it forms a strong, flexible, waterproof layer that bonds well to most building surfaces. Its main advantage is that it stays flexible even at sub-zero temperatures, which matters for exposed structures with large temperature swings.

Key properties
- Flexible and bridges cracks. Concrete moves and cracks over time, but the coating stays elastic, so the layer does not break when micro-cracks appear. With Flexonet reinforcing mesh it withstands even larger deformation and suits moving structures.
- Resists positive and negative water pressure. Suitable from the outside (to keep water out) and from the inside (to keep it in). It withstands up to 8 bar of negative pressure, which makes it a good fit for basements from the inside when the foundation cannot be dug out, and for pools.
- Dries quickly. You can keep working in cooler autumn or spring weather, because the coating dries even at low temperatures or on damp substrates.
- Safe for the environment and drinking water. It has certificates for contact with drinking water, emits very low VOC and is safe to use indoors. Recycled materials are used in its production.
Where it works best
- Foundations: protection from groundwater and capillary moisture.
- Terraces and balconies under tiles: the flexible layer withstands temperature swings and rain, and the tiles do not pop off.
- Pools and water tanks: full watertightness even under pressure; also suitable for drinking water tanks.
- Bathrooms, showers and kitchens: bonds well to concrete, brick, masonry and plasterboard, forming a barrier before tiling.
- Concrete protection: protects from CO₂ (carbonation), sea water and de-icing salts.
How to use it
- Prepare the surface. It must be clean, sound, free of dust, grease, old paint and cement laitance. Old or dusty substrates should be primed; very dry ones should be dampened without leaving puddles.
- Mix. Stir the liquid component in its original container and pour it into a clean bucket. Slowly add the powder while stirring continuously and mix with an electric mixer at 300-400 rpm for 3-5 minutes until smooth. Use the mix within 20 minutes.
- Apply in two coats with a roller, brush or trowel. The first coat is about 1 mm. Do not add water if the mix thickens. Apply the second coat once the first has cured (about 2 hours at +20 °C).
- Reinforce where larger movement is expected (pools, roofs): press Flexonet mesh into the fresh first coat with a metal trowel.
- Let it cure. Before tiling or backfilling, 16 hours is usually enough, or 24 hours at lower temperatures. Pools and tanks to be filled with water need at least 3 days.
